In a significant update for Chartered Accountancy aspirants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced that the CA Final exams will now be conducted three times a year, beginning in 2025. This strategic move aims to align with global standards and enhance student flexibility.
Key Decision Taken in ICAI’s 441st Council Meeting
The landmark decision was finalized during the 441st Council Meeting of ICAI, held in New Delhi on March 27, 2025. As per the latest announcement, CA Final exams will now be held in January, May, and September, instead of the previous biannual format.
All CA Levels to Follow the New Exam Schedule
Last year, ICAI revised the exam frequency for CA Foundation and Intermediate levels, and with the latest change, all three levels of the Chartered Accountancy program will now follow a triannual exam cycle. This change is expected to provide students with increased opportunities to clear their exams and accelerate their professional journey.
“To match international best practices and provide more flexibility to students, the 26th Council has taken a historic step,” stated ICAI.
ISA Assessment Test Also Updated
In addition to the CA Final exam schedule, ICAI has also revised the schedule for the Information Systems Audit (ISA) Post Qualification Course. The ISA Assessment Test, previously held in June and December, will now be conducted three times a year—in February, June, and October.
Objective: Improve Access and Success Rates
ICAI President CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda and Vice President CA. Prasanna Kumar D, along with council members, emphasized that these changes are part of a broader mission to improve access to professional education and increase success rates among CA aspirants.
The institute is expected to release further details and updated guidelines regarding the new examination schedules soon on its official website.
Benefits of New CA Exam Schedule:
- More attempts to clear each level
- Reduced waiting time between exam cycles
- Alignment with global accounting education standards
- Improved student convenience and flexibility
