5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Punjab, Epicenter Near DG Khan

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 shook various districts of Punjab, including Lahore, on Wednesday morning, according to the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The earthquake hit at 7:28 am, causing tremors across the region.

Epicenter and Depth
The epicenter was located near DG Khan (Shadi Wala) at a depth of 10 kilometers, PDMA spokesperson Mazhar Hussain confirmed. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and assessing potential damage caused by the tremors.

Emergency Response in Place
In response to the earthquake, district emergency operation centers across Punjab, including PDMA’s Provincial Control Room, have been placed on high alert. The spokesperson urged citizens to report any structural damage or safety concerns through PDMA’s helpline at 1129.

Recent Seismic Activity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
This event follows a 4.5 magnitude earthquake in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday. The tremors were felt in areas like Swat, where the epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush Mountain range, a region prone to frequent earthquakes.

Authorities on Alert for Aftershocks
With the potential for aftershocks, authorities remain on standby to respond to any further seismic activity. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines issued by the PDMA.
