Historic Judicial Milestone for High-Altitude Region
Marking a landmark evolution in the legal infrastructure of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant officially inaugurated the newly constituted Ladakh Bench of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh at Melongthang, Leh.
The inauguration addresses decades of logistical hurdles for residents of the cold desert region, who previously had to travel hundreds of kilometers to Jammu or Srinagar to pursue high court proceedings. Accompanying the physical court complex rollout was the launch of integrated technology tools—including an e-filing portal, an online recruitment portal, and a digital document management system designed to support remote litigations across Leh and Kargil.
