Mom Stunned as Nurses Gasp: Baby Girl Born Weighing 14 Pounds

Nurses Gasp as Baby Paris Halo Makes Her Grand Entrance

Pamela Mann, a first-time mother from Alabama, was momentarily terrified when the delivery room erupted in gasps as her baby was born. Although her C-section went smoothly, she feared something had gone wrong.

“The doctor pulled her out, and suddenly, all the nurses started saying, ‘Oh my God!’ ‘Wow!’” Mann, 31, shared with TODAY.com. “I panicked because I had no idea what was happening.”

She soon discovered that her baby girl, Paris Halo, weighed an astonishing 14 pounds, 4 ounces—nearly twice the average newborn’s weight.

Paris Halo Becomes the Talk of the Hospital

Mann, a delivery driver, had no idea that her baby’s size was unusual. “I thought 13 pounds was normal. I’m a first-time mom!” she said with a laugh. But the nurses quickly informed her otherwise.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, the average newborn weighs between 6 and 9 pounds, making Paris one of the biggest babies ever born at Grand View Medical Center in Alabama.

Since her March 4 birth, Paris has become somewhat of a celebrity at the hospital. “Nurses from different floors keep coming in just to see her,” Mann shared.

Family Flooded with Nickname Suggestions

Paris Halo’s incredible size has sparked a wave of fun nickname suggestions, including “Pork Chop,” “Big Mama,” and “Star.”

“They call her ‘Star’ because she’s already famous at just three days old,” Mann joked.

Receiving Extra Care in the NICU, But Thriving

While Paris is in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for monitoring, doctors say she is doing great and will likely be discharged soon.

“She’s getting a little extra love and care, but she’s healthy and strong,” Mann assured.

One of the Heaviest Babies in History

While Paris’s size is rare, she is not the heaviest baby ever born. The Guinness World Record for the heaviest baby to survive infancy belongs to a 22-pound, 8-ounce boy born in Aversa, Italy, in 1955. More recently, in 2019, Joy Buckley from New York delivered a 15-pound, 5-ounce baby girl.

After giving birth, Buckley described the experience as, “Like being hit by two tractor-trailers at the same time.”

A Birth Story to Remember

As Pamela Mann prepares to bring her baby home, she is embracing the excitement surrounding Paris Halo’s unforgettable birth.

“She’s already special, and this is just the beginning of her journey,” Mann said proudly.

Paris Halo’s incredible birth story has captured global attention, leaving many in awe of this remarkable newborn.
