Eid-ul-Azha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar. Muslims across the world are now preparing for the blessed days of Dhul Hijjah, with a six-day holiday already confirmed.
Moon Sighting to Determine Eid Date
On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Muslims will look for the crescent moon, which will confirm the start of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th and final month of the Islamic year. This moon sighting is crucial as it decides the exact date of Eid-ul-Azha 2025.
The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has urged all Muslims to observe the sky on the evening of 29 Dhu al-Qadah 1446 AH (May 27) to look for the moon.
Eid Holiday Dates and Trading Closure
While Saudi Arabia’s official public holiday dates are still pending, the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul) has already declared its Eid holiday schedule. Trading will close after business hours on June 4 (8 Dhul Hijjah) and resume on June 11 (15 Dhul Hijjah) — confirming a six-day break for financial markets.
If the moon is seen on Tuesday night, Dhul Hijjah will begin on May 28, and Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on Friday, June 6. If not, the month will start on May 29, and Eid will fall on Saturday, June 7.
Global Muslim Community Awaits Announcement
Muslims worldwide are eagerly awaiting the moon sighting update, as it impacts travel plans, Hajj rituals, family gatherings, and religious prayers during this holy season.
This celebration holds deep spiritual meaning and is linked with the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice and the performance of Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah.
